Timothy Brown, M.D., Surgeon

Timothy Brown, M.D.

Colorado Choice BariatricsSurgeon

My name is Timothy Brown, and I am a weight loss (bariatric) surgeon. My passion for surgical weight loss began in 1992 with my first job as a practicing surgeon. At the time I was an active military officer and working at a large Air Force Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. My surgical partner was Dr. Scott Shikora, M.D., and we both were interested in weight loss surgery.

Today, Dr. Shikora, M.D. is the director for one of the largest surgical weight loss programs on the east coast. At the time, all surgical weight loss operations were performed through a large incision, were a type of gastric bypass, and performed in hospitals.

Early in my career I realized that bariatric surgeons were in short supply compared to the number of patients who could benefit from surgery as only 2-3 percent of potential patients ever get surgery. Over the years the operations have changed, and the surgical incisions have gotten smaller. Today, patients can have weight loss surgery through small laparoscopic incisions or even a single incision.

In my practice alone there are thousands of patients who have successful careers and lead normal lives after weight loss surgery. The two common procedures today include sleeve gastrectomy and single anastomosis duodenal switch. Laparoscopic gastric bands and gastric bypass procedures are becoming a thing of the past.

As these surgeries have evolved so have the methods of patient preoperative preparation, surgical technique, and postoperative care. What used to require large hospitals and expensive bariatric programs now only requires a dedicated surgical office and surgery center.

My weight loss surgery practice provides the most up-to-date weight loss surgery care in Colorado with all patients having same day surgery. They go home in about three hours or less. We have done a deep dive and discovered the recipe for patient success while other practices in Colorado still rely on 1-2-day hospital stays of overnight recovery.

Patients and their families will enjoy an affordable experience in beautiful Cañon City, Colorado with all its endearing and exciting activities.
